Christians believe God is the creator of all things, and that
his word is revealed to
us through the Bible. He created mankind in order to love us and to
have a relationship
with us. He gave us a physical body, a mind, and a soul. He also gave
us free will,
allowing us to decide how to live out our lives.
Early mankind turned away from God, but God still loved them, and
he continued to
seek them out. Over the many years, God established relationships
with individuals and
the Israelite people. God promised that he would send a deliverer,
a Messiah, who would
set them free from the suffering, pain, and sin of this life. Out
of God’s abounding love, he sent his only son Jesus into this
world, to be the deliverer and the hope of ALL mankind,
to sacrificially die for us and pay the debt of our sins.
Jesus was crucified for us, but he defeated death by his resurrection. Jesus instructed us to love one another, to serve and worship him,
and to spread
his message of love and salvation to the world, until that time when
he comes again
to take his believers home to heaven for all of eternity.
All who turn from their sins and believe in Jesus as their savior
will be reconciled
to God now and forevermore, living with him in heaven. This requires
making a personal
commitment of one’s life to Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
God invites you to receive these
gifts of forgiveness and eternal life today, through prayer. Then,
be sure to tell
another Christian friend of your decision, and join a Christian church
where you can
be nurtured in faith.
The
gospel of John is a good place to start reading the Bible.
